On December 1, 2025, we opened the doors of Thien Vietnam Restaurant in Thornhill, Ontario — and with that, a story that started two decades ago on the prairies arrived in the GTA.

From Saskatoon to Thornhill

For more than twenty years, our family has been cooking for Saskatoon. What began as a single dining room grew into three restaurants across Saskatchewan, and along the way we learned what makes guests come back: broth that you can’t fake, herbs picked the same morning they’re served, and a kitchen that treats Tuesday lunch with the same care as Saturday dinner.

Opening in Thornhill is the next chapter. We brought the recipes east, hired a team who shares the same standards, and built a room that feels like the ones our regulars in Saskatoon already know — a little brighter, a little louder at the dinner rush, and always smelling like roasted spices.

Three cuisines, one kitchen

We cook three traditions we love — Vietnamese, Thai, and Chinese — with Vietnamese at the heart of the menu. A few things we’d point a first-time guest toward:

Bowl of Thai Tom Yum noodle soup with shrimp, mushrooms, and fresh herbs

  • Phở — the broth simmers from sunrise; roasted spices, charred onion, and slow-cooked bones do the work
  • Bún Bò Huế — the spicier, lemongrass-forward cousin of phở, from central Vietnam
  • Thai Tom Yum rice noodle soup — sour, hot, fragrant; shrimp, mushrooms, lime
  • Pad Thai — wok-fired rice noodles with tamarind, peanuts, and your choice of protein
  • Fresh shrimp salad (Gỏi Tôm) — a bright, herby starter built for hot afternoons
  • Chinese classics — General Tao chicken, beef with broccoli, sweet & sour pork

If you’re not sure where to start, ask. We genuinely like the question.
