You came to Promenade for one errand and now it’s 12:40, you’re hungry, and the question is the same one everybody asks: where do you actually eat at Promenade Mall?

We get asked this a lot, mostly because our dining room sits right in the middle of it. Thien Vietnam is on the 1st floor of Promenade Shopping Centre in Thornhill, and we’ve spent enough lunch rushes here to know how people eat at this mall — the 15-minute crowd, the long-lunch crowd, the Saturday family table that turns into an hour and a half. This is our guide to eating well here, written from the inside of one of the kitchens.

The two ways to eat at Promenade

Mall food usually splits into two modes, and Promenade is no different.

Quick counter food is the default when you’ve got a parking meter’s worth of patience. You order standing up, you eat fast, and you’re back in the concourse in 20 minutes. It does the job.

Sit-down restaurants are the other mode — table service, a real menu, food that arrives on a plate instead of in a clamshell. That’s where we live. You get a proper meal in about the same time it takes to queue, eat, and clear a tray at a counter, and you get to sit down while you do it.

The mix of tenants at Promenade Shopping Centre changes over time, so for the current directory it’s always worth checking the mall’s own listings. What we can tell you about with confidence is our corner of it — and what’s worth ordering when you get here.

Where we are inside the mall

We’re on the 1st floor, Unit i, reachable from both the Bathurst Street and Centre Street sides of the centre. If you’ve parked and you’re walking in, you’ll smell the broth before you see the sign — that’s not a marketing line, it’s just what happens when a kitchen simmers phở stock from early morning.

If you’d like turn-by-turn detail, we wrote a whole post on how to find us at Promenade Shopping Centre, including which doors to use and where the free parking is.

What to order, by how much time you have

Here’s the honest breakdown we’d give a friend.

You have 20 minutes

Order a noodle soup. It arrives fast, because the broth has been ready since morning — the only thing that happens after you order is assembly.

  • Beef phở ($18.95) — the classic. Clean broth, rice noodles, tender sliced beef, herbs and lime on the side.
  • Wonton soup (from $6.95 for a small) — if you want something lighter, or a starter that lands in minutes.
  • Thai Tom Yum rice noodle soup — sour, hot, and fragrant, for when you want the opposite of comfort food.

If phở is the reason you’re here, our guide to the best pho in Thornhill walks through every bowl on the menu and which one to start with.

You have an hour

This is the sweet spot for a real lunch, and it’s when the vermicelli bowls and rice plates earn their keep.

  • BBQ chicken on vermicelli noodle ($15.95) — grilled meat, rice vermicelli, fresh herbs, and a side of nuoc cham to pour over. Light enough that you can go back to shopping afterward.
  • Pork chop on rice — grilled, charred at the edges, served with rice and a fried egg depending on which version you pick.
  • Pad Thai ($19.95) — the one dish everyone at the table recognises, done properly.

You’re feeding a family

Saturday afternoons at Promenade Mall are a group sport. Our dinner combos are built for exactly that — one price, multiple courses, no menu negotiation.

  • Dinner For One ($19.95) — rolls or wonton soup, fried rice, and a stir fry.
  • Dinner For Two ($38.95) — four courses, two options to choose between.
  • Combos scale up through Dinner For Six, which is the one that shows up at birthdays.

For the table, add a plate of Vietnamese rolls ($7.95) or the Sizzling Crispy Ginger Beef ($25.95), which arrives still crackling and reliably makes the whole dining room turn around.

Eating at Promenade without spending much

Mall lunches add up. Ours don’t have to.

Monday through Wednesday we run three $12.95 weekly lunch specials — grilled pork chop on rice, classic beef phở, or BBQ chicken vermicelli, each with a pop included. It’s the cheapest way to find out whether we’re your new Promenade spot, and it’s the order we’d point a first-timer toward.

Beyond that: appetizers start at $7.95, wonton soup at $6.95, and plain fried rice at $14.95. You can put together a genuinely filling lunch here for well under twenty dollars.

Hours, parking, and the practical stuff

  • Open daily, 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. — weekends and most holidays included. We open before much of the mall does and we’re still serving after the shops close.
  • Free parking on site at Promenade Shopping Centre, off both Bathurst Street and Centre Street.
  • Dine in, takeout, or delivery across Thornhill, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, and Markham. If you’re picking up on your way out of the mall, call ahead and it’ll be bagged and waiting.
  • Reservations are worth it for groups of six or more, especially on weekends. Get in touch or call (905) 889-6688.

Three cuisines come out of the same kitchen here — Vietnamese, Thai, and Chinese — which is genuinely useful when one person wants phở, one wants Pad Thai, and one wants chow mein. That range is why we’ve been able to feed families for more than twenty years; you can read our story if you’re curious how a Saskatoon kitchen ended up in Thornhill.
